The 2023/24 safrinha corn in Brazil was 98% harvested as of late last week compared to 71% last year according to AgRural. This represents an advance of 3% for the week and it continued to be a record fast harvest pace.

Mato Grosso - The Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea) increased their estimate of the 2023/24 corn production in the state. The statewide yield is now estimated at 114.0 sacks per hectare (108.7 bu/ac) with a total production of 47.52 million tons, which is up 0.45% from their July estimate. This is the second highest corn production recorded in Mato Grosso.

Yields of 120.6 sacks per hectare (115.1 bu/ac) were reported in the western region, 120.0 sacks per hectare (114.5 bu/ac) in the mid-north region, and 113.5 sacks per hectare in the northwestern region. The high yields are being attributed to favorable weather during the growing season and the fact that the corn was planted during the ideal planting window.

After sampling approximately 10% of the safrinha corn acreage in the state, Aprosoja/MS reduced their estimate of the state's production another 19% to 9,25 million tons, which now puts the crop 34.7% below last year's production. The statewide yield is estimated at 69.77 sacks per hectare (66.5 bu/ac), which is down 30.7% from 2023/24.
