At the opening of the Palermo Rural Exhibition, held on Friday, July 26, 2025, President Javier Milei of Argentina announced a significant reduction in export taxes for six key agro-industrial products: beef and poultry, corn, sorghum, sunflower, soybeans, and soybean by-products. The new rates will be permanent and, according to the president, are part of the path toward completely eliminating export taxes.

New export tax rates:

Milei assured that the changes will not be reversed during his presidency although history may indicate otherwise. The export taxes were temporarily lowered in January of 2025 only to be increased in July and now lowered again.

When the administration announced that the export taxes would be increased on July 1st, farmers in northwestern Argentina complained that the combination of low commodity prices, higher transportation costs, and higher export taxes made it nearly impossible to grow crops at a profit.

Commodity groups welcomed the change and expressed the need to completely eliminate export taxes in order to stimulate production.
