Argentina Soy Unchanged at 49.0 Million Tons, Dryness Worries

Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.

Argentina weather - It has taken a while, but dryer weather in Argentina is impacting the crops especially in southern and western areas. In contrast, heavy rains continue to fall in far northern Argentina. If this dryer pattern persists, there is a downside risk for the crops in Argentina.

Rain over the weekend in Argentina mostly favored northeastern and far eastern growing areas, with the heaviest amounts noted in Chaco and northern Entre Rios. Dry weather is expected in most areas over the next few days, but showers will return to northern growing areas later this week. Hot and dry weather in southern growing areas will increase stress on corn and soybeans, especially over the next few days and during the 6-10 day period.

Soybeans in Argentina were 88.3% planted as of late last week. This represents an advance of 6.3% for the week. In the core production areas, the soybeans are 100% planted with 85-95% planted in southern areas and 40-50% planted in far northern Argentina. Planting has been slowed in northern Argentina due to excessive moisture. Double-crop soybeans are 84% planted. The early planted soybeans are 10% flowering. Below is the soybean planting progress in Argentina for January 7, 2026 from the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange.
